Hot Debate: It is Time to Let Go of Rate Parity

Traditionally hotels maintain different rates for different segments. However, with the advancement of technology, guests are increasingly price savvy. With guest hunting through multiple channels for the best value, rate parity was introduced as a way to ensure consistency throughout all distribution channels. Yet, from a yield management point of view, shouldn’t the costs (commission and taxes) be taken into consideration and use the net receivables (on the hotel side) as the basis of revenue management? Would that not provide the opportunities for hotels to recapture the market share from OTAs?
