Hotel Management Singapore Summit 2019

Enhancing Financial Results through Optimized Resources and Impactful Experiences

"Relying on more and more foreign workers is not the long-term solution – other economies are developing too. What we need is to have a sustainable inflow of foreign workers to complement our workforce, while we upgrade our Singaporean workers and build deep enterprise capabilities in these sectors.”

- Heng Swee Keat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, The Republic of Singapore

With the Government reducing the foreign labour quota from 40% to 35% in the next two years, the service industry is anticipating significant impacts.

Hotels, being labour intensive, need refined strategies to contend with the shortage of Singaporeans willing to work shifts and blue-collar jobs. Automating through technology, streamlining manpower requirements through job re-design, and reviewing the existing financial contribution of assets under the new labour scenario to determine their continuity, are a few viable methods to manage the situation and ensure profitable operations.

Aside from the only hurdle – labour, hoteliers in Singapore are also actively optimizing their performances and exploring new business models in F&B, co-working, loyalty and distribution, based on the latest consumer trends and guest behaviours.

Hotel Management Singapore Summit (HMS) will return, as an Innovation Bureau for Singapore-based hoteliers, on 5 September, 2019. Featuring case studies and expert insights, HMS 2019 will help hoteliers refine their HR strategies on automations and job redesign, optimize underperforming F&B space, and enhance loyalty programs and deliver guest-centric experiences.

REDESIGNING OPERATIONS: Achieving Lean-Manpower Operations: Optimizing the Job Scopes and Improving Operational Efficiency

The only way for hotels to adjust to the new normal of manpower shortage is to reduce labour needs. With operational reviews eliminating meaningless procedures, technology automating mundane tasks, and selected-service models bypassing non-essential services, only bits and pieces remain from traditional hospitality jobs.

To maximize the positive value that your human associates create in your guests’ journeys, the essential bits and pieces need to be logically combined and arranged. While potentially complicated and challenging, job redesign is inevitable and hoteliers are embracing it.

A group of early adopters will share their insights, thought processes and resultant job designs to inspire you on your own transformations.  The multi-stakeholder perspectives coupled with the self-moderated discussion will provide a better understanding of major pitfalls in achieving lean-manpower operations and on ways to address these challenges.

In this session, you will learn:

  • How to streamline manpower requirement without negatively impacting guest experiences.
  • How to create an agile workforce with increased productivity and reduced operational costs.
  • How to uncouple, unstack, and segment tasks from existing job design and redesign for higher productivity and efficiency
  • What operational areas you should focus on in enlarging, enriching and/or reconfiguring job scopes.
  • How best to upskill existing workforce to excel in their redesigned roles.
